What Is An NDIS Planner

An NDIS planner (or Local Area Coordinator) is the person from the NDIS who works with you to develop your plan — turning your goals into funded supports.

What a planner does

  • Gathers information about your life, needs and current supports
  • Runs your planning meeting and talks through your goals
  • Decides what supports are reasonable and necessary to fund
  • Drafts your plan and explains what your budgets can be used for

How to prepare for your planning meeting

Bring any reports or assessments you have (therapy reports, medical letters, school or work feedback), spend some time thinking about your short and long-term goals, and jot down the supports you use day to day. It's perfectly fine — and helpful — to bring a family member, carer or support person with you. A support coordinator can also help you get ready.
