What Is The NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia's way of funding support for people with permanent and significant disability — giving participants choice and control over the supports they receive.

How the NDIS helps

  • Funding tailored to each person, not a one-size-fits-all package
  • Choice and control — you choose your providers and how supports are delivered
  • A lifelong approach — plans adjust as your life and goals change
  • Support towards independence, community participation, work and wellbeing

Who can access the NDIS

You may be eligible if you're under 65 when you apply, are an Australian citizen or permanent resident (or hold a protected special category visa), and have a permanent and significant disability that affects your everyday life — or a child with developmental delay who would benefit from early intervention. Applications start through the NDIS or your local partner in the community. More detail is available at ndis.gov.au.
